When I arrived at work at the beginning of the week last week, I had the following conversation:
Co-worker: Did you hear that they’re making Star Wars 7, 8, and 9?
Me (with a skeptical, incredulous, mild surprise): Really?
Co-worker: Yeah, and guess who LucasFilm got bought out by?
Me: (Jokingly) HMmm…Disney?
Co-worker: (Nodding) Disney.
Me (perking up): Oh, so the movies might actually be good.
I don’t want to get into the dog-pile formed by all of the George Lucas haters. The man is a good storyteller, producer, and businessman. He’s just not a great director. The general story that he created in Star Wars was an epic tale. It’s just that he just doesn’t seem to know how to pull the best performance out of his actors.
Generally, I’ve been impressed with the products that have come out of Disney, and I think there is a lot of potential going forward.
