While at PAX I had the opportunity to see an absolutely insane game called Asura’s Wrath.  Here is a short video of an actual playable scene:

I feel like Gabe describing Prototype.

You’re wondering if you should buy Asura’s Wrath.  You’re on the fence.  I can help you with that.

A god the size of a planet wants to kill you by striking you with a finger poke of doom.  You counter by punching said finger a a thousand times like you’re an eastern Fist of the North Star, and when you give your final punch, the god explodes.  That’s the beginning of the game.

What more do you want?!

This has to be one of the craziest games I’ve ever seen.  If I were to do a Locke Vincent Gaming Alchemy breakdown of the game, I would say that it is a cross between Bayonetta’s and Godhand’s gameplay, God of War’s storyline (with an eastern twist).  Oh, and make street fighter’s Akuma the main character.  That should just about do it.

I’m batting about .500 in calling game of the year at PAX.  Two years ago I said the game of the year was Brutal Legend, a decision I horribly regret.  Last year, I called Portal 2, and I stand by it.  This year, I’m going to go out on a limb again and say that Asura’s Wrath will be the game of the year for 2011/2012.  We’ll see how it turns out.
